Avoid Stage Fright: Be like Steve Jobs and make good presentations

By: Jeffrey Varao

Ever wondered why his presentations are so catchy? What is it about them? The way he is dressed, or portrays himself? The way he speaks or acts? What is it? Does he have stage fright?

Listen in to find out how YOU can be a great presenter like Steve Jobs!!!

Steve Jobs 10 Tips to a successful presentation

1.     Set a theme. All presentations need a theme but don’t need to be delivered right at the beginning! Jobs set the theme for his presentation hinting at the ultrathin MacBook Air laptop by saying “There is something in the air today.” It gives you a sense of control, eliminating the feelings associated with stage fright.

2.     Display enthusiasm. Show passion for the topic in which you are talking about. Jobs would use words such as “extraordinary, amazing, cool and awesome” in order to make the audience believe in what he was talking about.

3.     Provide an outline. State what you are going to talk about in the beginning of your presentation. Steve outlined his presentations by saying “There are four things I want to talk about today. So lets get started”

4.     Make numbers meaningful. Relate them to everyday reality. Its going to reduce your fright on the stage because you can relate to it.This can be done using comparisons such as when Jobs announced Apples 4 million Iphones sold he said “that’s 20,000 sold a day”

5.     Try to make a unforgettable moment. This can be done by wowing the audience with a special experiment, video or interesting fact. Jobs did this when introducing the MacBook Air when demonstrating that it was so thin that it could fit in a envelope.

6.     Create visual slides. This means slides with very little text or data and more images so the audience stays interested in what the presenter has to say.

7.     Give ‘em a show. Dont be scared or frightened!! Jobs used things such as video clips, demonstrations and guest speakers.

8.     Don’t worry about the small stuff or things that might go wrong, just carry on and make it seem like no big deal.

9.     Project the benefit not the product. In other words present the main idea or interesting fact, don’t worry about overall viewpoint.

10.   Rehearse, rehearse, and rehearse. Jobs could pull off his amazing presentations without hours of rehearsal, no one can so practice makes perfect. This will make you more confident in your work and speaking, removing your stage fright and make you look like Steve Jobs.
